Ok, I still don't have some fun quip about life, or what this blog is about to put here. Someday - perhaps tomorrow perhaps two years from tomorrow - I will figure it out. Until then, see my randomness below.

Day of Silence

"Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence, a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO END THE SILENCE?"

That's what the back of my shirt, and the cards which I pass out today have on them. Here's how I feel about it.

As someone who uses his voice to both stand up for himself and to speak out against the very homophobia and heterosexism that I protest through silence today... I have never felt more alone, more powerless, and more vulnerable, since I started my career as an activist, than I do today. I am reminded about all the things that I have not said, all of the things that I will not say, and all of the times that even I have been silenced, and I remain speechless. This blog post is not an attempt to understand that. Understanding I work on as today passes. This blog is just a note to say, SILENCE IS LOUD, and as a result I have been changed today.
